"I suppose the culture there, at least among SF readers, must be interested in the themes of my work, such as artificial intelligence and the material underpinnings of consciousness," Egan said. "The translator of my work, Makoto Yamagishi, must also be doing a very good job."

"It always take a while for books to get translated from English into any foreign language," Egan said. "But I've heard that there's a shortage of translators in Japan, so they have a big backlog of work."
